This features an entire herbaceous border of multi-coloured flowers in lime, emerald, two shades of hot pink, jade, turquoise, lilac, magenta and smoky blue-grey, which almost smother the heavy ivory ground. I'm really proud of our Indian artisans for creating something so radiantly, colourfully joyous and technically so complicated as this nine-colour embroidery. Furniture is a newish departure for Bombay Duck - I won't design anything where I'm simply duplicating existing products already out there: it has to be better, it has to be supremely useful, and it has to add that extra something to your home in the way of colour, pattern or detail. I'm happy that this bench achieves all that - a cool modern update on that Victorian classic of the tapestry-upholstered bench. Ours is almost completely covered with embroidery, done in chain stitch on a hand-held machine using the traditional technique used for centuries. It's petite enough to fit in anywhere, but solid enough to stay stable, with hand-turned legs of sustainable mango wood and a hand-embroidered top adding softness and vibrant colours.
